Well, what is infantigo disease? Infantigo is a bacterial skin infection which is caused by Streptococcus or Staphylococcus. Sometimes, these bacteria get into the body when the skin has been irritated or injured due to the other skin problems like poison ivy, insect bites, eczema, burns, or cuts. Infantigo can cause sores which can break open, ooze fluid, and then develop a yellow-brown crust. The sores can happen anywhere on the body especially face, nose, hands, mouth, behind the knees and forearms. This infection is more often found in children. It is highly contagious and it can infect the others by direct contact or sharing towels, clothing, sheets, toys and the other items. Besides, scratching can spread the sores to the other parts of the body as well.

When you see a doctor, he will diagnose infantigo infection straightforward and based on the clinical appearance. If the case is mild infantigo, you will be prescribed an antibiotic ointmen or cream to put on the sores for your infantigo cure. If the case is more serious, the doctor may prescribe antibiotic pills as well. A kid can go back to school or daycare after 24 hours of treatment. If you apply the ointment or take the pills exactly as prescribed, most sores can be healed completely in one week. When you are at home, you are able to wash the sores gently by using clean water everyday. If crusts form, the doctor will advise you to soften or remove the crusts. You are able to do this by soaking them in warm water and patting them dry. It also can help the cream or ointmen work better. If you have touched the area, wash your hands with soap and water or even you can use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. It is better if you do not scratch the sores since scratching can spread the infection to the other parts of your body. If you do not get better or even you realize that the infection is getting worse like fever, swelling, increased pain, redness, warmth or pus, you are able to call your doctor.

Because skin disease infantigo is very contagious, you need to be careful of this kind of infection. This skin infection can be prevented by maintaining good body or hand hygiene and also a healthy diet full of fruits and vegetables. Besides, when you wash your body, it is better if you use an all-natural tea tree oil soap rather than a chemically derived antibacterial soap which will do more harm than good.
